Benefits of Coconut Water

Coconut Water
Joe Clark - Yesterday we talked about how much water to drink, taking a deeper look at some hydration options today we want to talk to you about the benefits of Coconut Water.  Spend any amount of time in a training and you’re bound to see several of the
members drinking coconut water. What is it and why are they drinking it?

Coconut water is the liquid found inside the cavity of the coconut when it’s cracked open.  It contains natural sugars and other minerals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium.
It contains large amounts of sodium and potassium, which are the two key electrolytes for rehydrating your body after exercise.
On a macronutrient level, it only contains 9g of simple carbs per 8oz. This leaves it with a lot less sugars than other “sports recovery” drinks. The last thing you want to do is consume excess sugars after you’ve just worked your butt off in the gym.
Coconut water is the most efficient way to recover post workout. It has the highest amounts of the electrolytes you need, it’s low in sugars and fats and it’s going to help keep your hydration levels up. Fair warning, you’re in for some sticker shock when you see the price at the grocery store, but it’s well worth the investment if you train regular . Especially when you compare the price of it to other sports drinks.
