Expired cosmetics: a real health hazard

A British study warns against the use of expired cosmetics. Ladies, your makeup kits, it's time to do the sorting!

London Metropolitan University recently conducted a study on cosmetic whose expiration date expires. Writing launches the red alert, because the use of such products can cause the appearance of acne, vaginal infections, stomach or even fatal diseases. Involved, bacteria such as Eubacterium, Aeromonas, or the Propionibacterium. Infected, our main makeup tools (sponges, brushes and mascara) and become potentially dangerous weapons.
Security measuresTo help you sort through your toilet bag and ensure the health of your makeup, we recommend:
- Check the expiration date of your products and discard if expired. Yes, makeup has a cost but also our health! If you no longer have the expiration date of your beauty product, trust the approximate list below:

  • mascara and eyeliner: 3 months
  • concealer stick: 3 to 6 months
  • moisturizer for day or night: 6 months
  • Cleansing: 6 to 9 months
  • hydrating mask and cleansing: 6 months
  • exfoliating: 6 to 9 months
  • Anti-redness cream: 8 months
  • foundation: 9 months
  • body cream: 12 months
  • eye shadow: 2 years
  • eyeliner and eyebrows: 2 years
  • red lip pencil 2 years
  • blush: 2-3 years
  • eye shadow: 2-3 years

- Pay attention to the quality of your product, its texture and smell, which can be good indicators of sustainability.
- Keep your makeup in a cool and not humid place (unfortunately, the bathroom is not ideal).
- Never share your makeup with your girlfriends. Even if your friend ensures you will suffer no infection at this time, her makeup could still carry old infectious diseases such as oral herpes or an eye infection.
- Opting preferably for in-tube rather than in a pot, more prone to contamination. If you already own, you do not need to throw them in the trash. Just close the lid carefully making sure to wipe it from the inside, to prevent the proliferation of bacteria.
Your makeup is now under tight security and you are unharmed. Phew, we avoided the worst!
